Welcome to Year 6Ba’s class page!
We are very excited to share with you our topics for this half-term and to show you some of our fantastic work.
Key Information
Mr Banks is the class teacher and Mrs Kelly is the teaching assistant.
Maths
In Maths, we will be learning about place value, developing our arithmetic skills and improving our times tables through the use of Times Table Rock Stars!
English
We will begin by reading ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo and complete a range of activities based on the story. We will also be completing work on ‘Can we save the tiger?’ by Martin Jenkins which explores a range of endangered species and the problems they face.
Science
We will be learning about materials and their properties. We will look at a range of materials and conduct experiments to investigate their properties and look at how materials can be separated through filtering, sieving and evaporating. We will also look how materials can change from solids to liquids and liquids to solids and explore whether these changes are reversable or irreversable.
History
This half-term, we will be learning about ‘The Maya Civilisation’. We will use maps and atlases to locate Mayan cities and countries in Mesoamerica. In addition, we will learn about rituals and religious beliefs, number and writing systems, explorers including John Llyod Stephens and Frederick Catherwood and Mayan food including corn and chocolate.
P.E.
Our P.E lessons will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child has their P.E kit in school and that all items are labelled.
Computing
This half-term, we will be looking at E-safety. We will explore how to use computers and devices correctly and how to keep ourselves safe online.
R.E.
In R.E, we will be learning about the Hindu Dharma. We will look at Hindu Scripture and explore the guidance it gives.
PSHE
This half-term, we will be answering the question ‘ How can we keep healthy as we grow?’. We will look at how to lead a healthy lifestyle, becoming more independent and taking more responsibility.
Snack
At present, children are allowed to bring in a healthy snack and bottle of water. We are in the process of setting up a ‘Magic Breakfast’ where all children will be provided with a bagel during the morning session. A message will be sent to parents/website updated when these are available.
